Car crashes into home in San Pablo neighborhood for second time in a month

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Neighbor’s backyards are now becoming a new parking spot for cars, after they continue to crash into family’s fences.

The intersection of San Pablo and Port Arthur roads has seen 15 crashes in the last four years. In 2019 alone, there have been six total, including a crash from Saturday night. The crashes have happened as early as 7 a.m. and as late as 7 p.m.

  • 2016: 2 crashes 9/25 and 7/27 between 3 and 6 p.m.
  • 2017: 6 crashes 7/5, 5/24, 3/31, 2/8, 1/30 and 1/20. Three were early in the morning between 7 and 8 a.m. Others were between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
  • 2018: 1 crash 5/18 at 12:45 p.m.
  • 2019: 5 crashes 11/24, 8/21, 2/1, 3/2 and 1/15 between the times of 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

“I saw their friends and relatives boarding up the house for them.” Margot Radzimski said. “The young couple was away at that point.”

Their dog did pass away, according to a family member.

Just last month, a car lost control and plowed through the intersection into a family’s living room, barely missing a woman sitting on her couch.

“I can’t believe how dangerous the intersection is.” Radzimski said. “You can go straight through a light and except for one arrow, there’s no indication that you can’t keep going.”

Action News Jax reached out to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the City of Jacksonville. FDOT said it is a city road and therefore out of its control. The City’s Public Affairs Assistant Director said he forwarded our questions to the Traffic and Engineering Division, and we’re waiting for a response.

As for Radzimski, she had some suggestion of her own.

“A guard rail number one, trees number two, better lighting, and a better indication that this is a hard right hand turn.” Radzimski said. “You can’t go straight ahead there.”
