JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Family members tell Action News Jax the shooting death of Tavoris Pratt, 25, in a Lake Forest area park on Sunday brings an all too familiar sense of grief.
Rosie Brooks-White says Pratt was her cousin.
“We’re not supposed to bury our kids, our kids are supposed to be burying us,” said Brooks-White.
Police found Pratt at the Concord Circle park on Sunday around 1:30 pm.
“I can relate because I lost my daughter due to gun violence as well,” she said. “And it’s just … it’s hurting. It’s heartbreaking.”
Action News Jax told you in 2018 when Brooks-White’s daughter, Sahara Barkley, was shot and killed after a carjacking at a BP gas station in Riverside.
She tells us the loss of Pratt has opened old wounds for the family.
“When I did get the initial information, I just started screaming, and then I just jumped up, and came to be with his dad, and his mom,” she said.
Four witnesses were taken in for questioning but so far, no arrests have been announced. Police say they are searching for two suspects last seen in a white vehicle.
Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.
