FWC captures python at Southside apartment complex

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A snake has been taken into custody after it was caught slithering through a Southside apartment complex Wednesday.

Officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission told Action News Jax they were notified about the ball python just before 7:30 p.m. at the Bainbridge Town Center East Apartments on Kernan Boulevard.

One of their officers captured the snake about an hour later.

We’re told the snake is small and “not like the ones in the Everglades.” Ball pythons are one of the most popular nonnative snakes in the pet trade, according to the FWC.

The python is being scanned for a microchip to see if it is someone’s pet.

The snake was turned over to the captive wildlife.

Action News Jax asked FWC if the owner could face any charges. FWC said that is up to law enforcement.
