Jacksonville boy fighting cancer hopes to make it to Disney World

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Liam Hall is taking life one step at a time. He loves playing on his iPad, beating his mom in board games, and playing with his new golden retriever puppy.

“I run around the table and he follows me,” Liam said, referring to his pup.

While it may not be immediately obvious by looking at Liam, the upbeat 6-year-old is battling Glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer commonly found in the brain or spinal cord. He was first diagnosed at eight months old. It reoccurred right after Christmas on 2021.

“I’m afraid I’m gonna lose my son,” Liam’s mother, Pamela Hargraves-Fischer, said. “It’s really hard.”

Liam had surgery to remove the baseball-sized tumor in his brain on Dec. 31.

“They, unfortunately, weren’t able to get it all this time,” Hargraves-Fischer said. “The tumor tissue itself actually wrapped around the main blood vessel in his brain.”

However, Liam has beaten cancer before. The hope is that he’ll do it again. Besides getting healthy, the one thing Liam would really like to do is go to Disney World. It’s a wish both he and his mother are hoping will come true.

“Sometimes people need help,” Hargraves-Fischer said. “A lot of people don’t admit that, but we need it.”
