JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man has died months after he was attacked and police are seeking information from the community that can help in the investigation.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) said its officers were called out to a battery incident on University Boulevard North around 2:45 a.m. on Oct. 9, 2020.
An engineer with the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department spotted Aziz Bendour, 55, laying in the street as two suspects “stomped on the victim’s head,” according to a JSO report.
The JFRD engineer later told police he observed the two suspects, described as young black males, run from the scene towards Playa Way.
Officers say Bendour was left with extensive head trauma and was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He later died on Jan. 7, 2021.
JSO’s homicide unit is currently investigating.
