According to the police report, at approximately 6:40 a.m. Monday, officers responded to the location and found a woman with several visible lacerations with a large amount of blood on her. Sgt. Haberman, who responded to the scene, sent out a BOLO for the suspect, who was last seen heading eastbound on Baymeadows Road just over the bridge.

Police then made contact with the suspect later, 24-year-old Sean Mathis, Jr., and took him into custody. Officers transporting Mathis noted that he was covered in blood, and when asked if he was injured, Mathis admitted it was not his blood.

Police returned to the crime scene to look for the knife and spoke with two witnesses, who both advised that the victim was running through traffic trying to get into a vehicle for help. It also appeared she was trying to get away from the suspect. One of the witnesses let her sit in his car for protection while they waited for law enforcement and emergency personnel.

The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The victim and suspect appear to know each other as the victim told law enforcement that the suspect had a history of anger issues.
