On Tuesday, members of the Jacksonville City Council will talk about a homeless trust fund that would use $1 million.
If approved, part of the funding would go toward families at risk of becoming homeless. The bill would provide up to $1,500 to “at-risk” families.

The meeting on Tuesday at City Hall will be the “third reading” for the City Council, which means it’s the last step before council members either enact or adopt the bill.
The CEO of Sulzbacher Center said affordable housing is the key to solving homelessness in Jacksonville. She said that in December last year, 3,400 people were homeless in Jacksonville. There’s now 4,300, which is a more than 25% jump.
“We are in a crisis in Jacksonville. We have got to build extremely low-income, multi-family rental units as quickly as possible,” said Cindy Funkhouser, the CEO of Sulzbacher Center.
