JSO: Young child dies after wandering from home, drowning in neighbor’s pool in Oak Haven area

JACKSONVILLE. Fla. — A child under the age of 5 has died after wandering away from home and drowning in the neighbor’s swimming pool, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO responded around 2 p.m. and found the child in the pool. The child was taken to the hospital but could not be saved.

The neighbor’s swimming pool did have a fence around it, and police are unsure how the child got in. The neighbors are cooperating with police.

At this time, police believe the child’s death was accidental.

The Jacksonville Homicide Unit is investigating the area for additional information.
