Local urgent care noticing increase in COVID-19 cases in children

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In the past seven weeks, Night Lite Pediatrics of Florida have tested more than 22,000 children for COVID-19.

Doctors told Action News Jax they want to share their findings to send the message that children are not immune to the virus.

The main age group that they’ve tested is age 5 through 18.

Dr. Ayodeji Otegbeye with Night Lite Pediatrics said since school started they’re seeing more kids testing positive and showing symptoms.

Since August 31, 2020-- 709 Duval County Public School students have been tested at four senior center testing facilities offered by the City of Jacksonville.

Action News Jax first told you two weeks ago when the City launched its free testing initiative.

Dr. Otegbeye said the best way to slow the spread is to wear a mask. He encourages parents to let their kids pick out the mask so they get excited about wearing one.
