‘He did have his weapon:’ Son holds man who broke into his mom’s Jacksonville home at gunpoint

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville woman is on edge after someone broke into her home while she was sleeping.

“It breaks my security,” Teresa Crews said.

Crews, who lives on Betty Drive in Jacksonville, woke up to a man inside her home.

She said she was sleeping when she heard her dogs barking.

“I woke up to someone banging on my door telling me to open the door,” Crews said.

Crews said she opened the door and was surprised to see someone on the other side.

“When I opened the door, I stepped into the hall and there was a young man standing in the hallway with a knife in his hand,” Crews said.

Police say that man was 28-year-old Devin Fennell.

They believe he broke into her home through the back door.

“I started to basically yell at him to get out of my house,” Crews said.

She said that screaming alerted her son, who lives next door.

“My son came out about that time and he did have his weapon,” Crews said.

Her son held the man until Jacksonville Sheriff’s Officers arrived.

Crews, who has lived in the area for over 40 years, said incidents like this have never happened.

“I don’t sleep at night now because I’m nervous. I’ve never had that feeling in my entire life,” Crews said.

Fennell is now charged with burglary.
