‘No lines, no waiting:’ What Duval voters are saying about going to the polls on Election Day 2023

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Tuesday is Election Day in Duval County. The unitary election will determine City Council seats and Jacksonville’s next mayor.

Action News Jax spoke with voters at the Pablo Creek Library voting precinct.

“Long enough to pick up my ballot and cast my vote,” voter Linda Arnold said.

Duval voters like Arnold said the process took less than five minutes.

On Tuesday, the polls opened bright and early for the Duval Unitary First Election.

“No lines, no nothing,” voter Isabella Correa said. “It was just come and go.”

According to the Supervisor of Elections website, nearly 15% of voters had cast their ballots as of Tuesday morning.

There are 18 total races, which include city council and mayor.

The most recent mayoral poll conducted by the University of North Florida’s Public Opinion Research Lab (PORL) shows Republican Daniel Davis with 20% of the vote, Republican LeAnna Cumber with 5% and Democrat Donna Deegan with 37%.

With seven candidates in the race for mayor, election officials don’t believe it’ll be a quick one. The top two will likely head to a runoff in May.

“I don’t see any chance of there not being a runoff,” Supervisor of Elections Mike Hogan said.
