Nurse killed in shooting in Jacksonville’s San Jose neighborhood

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE: A 21-year-old Jacksonville man wanted for the murder of Stacey McPherson-Dillon was arrested by deputies in Key Largo Thursday.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Joseph McPherson was a person of interest in the Wednesday shooting of 45-year-old Stacey.

According to deputies, they spotted a black 2010 Toyota FJ5 Cruiser sport utility vehicle matching the suspect description provided by Jacksonville authorities driving southbound on U.S. 1 at Mile Marker 94.2 at approximately 3:15 p.m. The license plate number also matched the number provided by Jacksonville authorities.

A woman is dead after she was shot in the San Jose area of Jacksonville.

The woman has been identified as Wolfson Children’s Hospital nurse Stacey McPherson-Dillon.

Statement from Wolfson Children’s Hospital:

"We were deeply saddened to learn of the death of our nurse, Stacey McPherson-Dillon. The entire Baptist Health family offers our thoughts and prayers to Stacey’s loved ones at this time.

“To help team members cope with this sudden and tragic loss, we are providing them with the support of our chaplains and mental health providers.”

The shooting happened on San Severa Drive South. That is just off of Baymeadows Road near San Jose Boulevard.

Action News Jax Amber Krycka went to where the shooting happened.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said that there are several witness detained and being interviewed by detectives.

Other detectives are working to get a warrant in order to continue the investigation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

JSO did not have any addition victim information to release, but did say the woman killed was shot at least one time. Police also said that neighbor called 911.

Neighbor Woodie Burch told Action News Jax’s Elizabeth Pace that he heard the shooting and later found McPherson-Dillon.

“I heard a couple of shots sitting in the living room and came out and noticed some activity outside,” Burch said. “So we went and checked, kind of looked through the house and then we found her in the backyard. I saw her. It’s kind of burned into my head I really don’t want to get too into it. But it’s very hard to get past right now.”
