Ecstasy tablets disguised as candy, authorities say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Authorities are issuing a warning for parents as Halloween approaches about pills that look like candy.

Investigators said they are seeing pills that look like candy, which are actually Ecstasy tablets.

The drugs look like candy with crowns, smiley faces, Superman logos and more. These drugs seemingly are meant to appeal to children or at least disguise them as such, investigators said.

The notice was first issued in Jackson, Mississippi, where a social post by police had photos of the drugs and a message to parents urging them to check their kid's candies and when in doubt, just throw it out.

Action News Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson said parents should take the issue seriously.

"They need to make sure that they stay with the kids. They watch who gives them what," Jefferson said.

When asked, why would people just give drugs it to kids at Halloween when it cost money to produce, "It's a shame. I don't know why they would do that, just to cause harm," Jefferson said.

Action News Jax has not confirmed if these cases have been found in our area. However, Action News Jax is reaching out to police for more information.
