Escaped inmate sought by Lowndes County Sheriff's Office

Marvin Smith was convicted of motor vehicle theft in Glynn County.

LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. — The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office is searching for an escaped inmate.

Marvin Smith left the Valdosta Transitional Center shortly after midnight on June 12 and did not return, according to a LCSO news release. Smith was convicted of motor vehicle theft in Glynn County.

Smith is 5-feet, 9-inches tall and is approximately 160 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair that is balding. According to the release, Smith used to live in Brunswick, Ga.

A grey colored 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Georgia tag ACU7690 was reported stolen near the center. LCSO says the vehicle theft and the escape may not be related.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Marvin Smith or the vehicle should immediately contact their local law enforcement.
