Exclusive: Middleburg man says he used truck to save kid from being mauled by dogs

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Only on Action News Jax, a local man said he had to save a kid from being mauled by two dogs on his street.

He said surveillance video from his Middleburg home showed him pulling his truck between the teen and the dogs to protect him.

"He jumped in the back [of the truck] and I just rode him up there [to the corner]," Greg Warriner said.
Warriner said it happened Friday on Peppergrass Street.

"As soon as he got beside the dogs, they both darted out into the road after him," Warriner said.
Warriner was leaving his house at the time and instead drove to the corner to help.

"To stop the dogs from attacking him, I pulled the truck into the two of them and had him jump inside," Warriner said.

Warriner posted the video to social media to warn people, saying he's constantly dealing with roaming and aggressive dogs in his neighborhood.

Wednesday, the Action News Jax Sky Vision Drone even captured a dog Warriner said was not involved with the other encounter harassing a motorcyclist.

Warriner shared video of what appears to be the same dog chasing his chickens.  He said stray dogs have been eating them.

"We had 15 [chickens], we're down to two," Warriner said.  "So, they definitely come eat whatever they want."

Before 1 p.m. Wednesday, Action News Jax reached out to Clay County Animal Control to find out how many recent reports it has received in this area.  We were not given that information in time for our 11 p.m. newscast.

We helped Warriner contact them over the phone, but it was after hours. We were told unless an attack is happening that moment, to report it to claycountygov.com under Animal Services.

That's where the public can go if people have similar concerns.

Warriner hopes something changes, saying this could've been much worse.

"He was lucky that I was there, because if it would've been just him and the dogs, most likely he would've been torn up," Warriner said.
