Extra security expected at St. Augustine carnival due to social media shooting threat

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Watch Action News Jax live on CBS47:

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office and the St. Augustine Police Department have been investigating a social media post made Friday regarding the annual Cathedral Festival.

According to SJSO, they located the teenager who reportedly posted the threat, which stated someone from Miami was coming to the carnival to engage in a shooting.

The teenager could not tell officials who the supposed shooters were, where he heard it from or why they would be coming here.

SJSO said they would be adding additional security to the event.

On Friday, a 15-year-old was arrested for having a concealed firearm at the event but is not believed to be connected to the social media post.

SJCO urges people not to arm themselves if they are not legally permitted to do so.

SJCO said they are not able to validate the original social media post as credible but will continue to add extra security.
