The Florida Department of Law Enforcement searched through the Jacksonville motel room Scott Nelson rented before being arrested.
Police say Nelson is a suspect in the death of Jennifer Fulford, a nanny from Winter Park.
Fulford was last heard from last Wednesday in Winter Park in Central Florida.
Investigators say Nelson was seen using Fulford’s card at an ATM days before he was captured in a Jacksonville motel, the Sunshine Inn.
“We have recovered some evidence we believe will be valuable from both the home, from the scene where Ms. Fulford was recovered, from her vehicle. And also we anticipate, from the hotel room in Jacksonville,” said FDLE Orlando region special agent in charge Danny Banks.
We spoke with Vijaykumar Patel, the owner of the Sunshine Inn. He said Nelson came out with his hands up when law enforcement officers arrived.
“Definitely was surprised, because it’s very dangerous for my motel and I would not allow and not like to allow these kind of people in my motel,” Patel said.
Law enforcement officials say Nelson got to Jacksonville on an Amtrak train. The motel he was at is just a few minutes from the Amtrak stop.
Nelson is on federal probation and is currently being held without bond on federal charges.
