JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation is investing more than $25 million in two major projects along Butler Boulevard, commonly known as JTB, aimed at improving traffic flow and roadway conditions on one of Jacksonville’s busiest corridors.
“Butler Boulevard is really the main east-west intersection of Jacksonville. It is really the gateway to Jacksonville’s beaches,” FDOT spokesperson Jacob Pickering said.

The two contracts, valued at $10.9 million and $14.2 million, focus on reducing congestion and improving infrastructure along the route.
The first project is at the intersection of JTB and Philips Highway, where FDOT is reconfiguring the intersection to reduce traffic-signal phases and improve traffic flow.
“It’s basically a new intersection that will eliminate two left-turn phases and make the intersection have a lot less congestion,” Pickering said.
Construction on that project began in June and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2028.
The second project covers JTB from Belfort Road to Hodges Boulevard. The $14.2 million effort includes resurfacing, drainage improvements, guardrail upgrades and bridge work.
That project is expected to be completed in late 2027.

As construction continues on both projects, FDOT is urging drivers to remain alert in work zones.
“When you’re driving at night or really any time, always look around you. Watch out for cones, watch out for lights. Don’t drive distracted,” Pickering said.
Motorists traveling along the corridor should expect changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to slow down, stay alert and allow extra travel time, especially when heading to and from the beaches.
