Fertility doctor accused of filing false claims to TRICARE settles for $100K

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local doctor is accused of filing false claims.

Dr. Michael Fox used to own the Jacksonville Center for Reproductive Medicine. When we spoke to him, he didn't want us to record an interview, but the fertility doctor tells us the allegations against him aren't what they seem.

According to the Department of Justice, between January 2009 and February 2013, Fox had 3,300 instances of overbilling or false claims submitted to TRICARE. TRICARE provides civilian health benefits for military personnel, military retirees, and their dependents, including some members of the Reserve Component, according to the DOJ.

Fox said over the phone he disagrees with most of what the DOJ said. He also said medical billing today is "complex." He said he was trying to help patients and offer them the highest level of treatment.

Fox also said part of the reason he settled was to avoid a long drawn out case that would've cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees. The DOJ tells us the amount overpaid was just under $50,000.
