FHP: Crash in Clay County ends fatal

CLAY COUNTY, Fla — Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol state that at approximately 8 p.m. on New Years Eve, a 28-year-old man was killed after a collision on State Road 21.

The first vehicle, a Lincoln Navigator, was traveling southbound on State Road 21 in the left lane at what officials are calling a “high rate of speed”. Vehicle 2, a Nissan Sentra, was turning left from County Road 220 onto State Road 21.

Just as the Sentra was turning, the Navigator failed to stop for the red traffic signal and struck the Sentra on the driver side.

Both vehicles spun out before coming to rest in the travel lanes within the intersection.

The 28-year-old driver of the Sentra was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased by medial staff.

The driver of the Navigator remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.
