JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Here’s what the First Alert Weather Team said you can expect for the forecast:

  • This afternoon, scattered heavy showers are developing across northeast Florida and will continue for the rest of the day.
  • Spotty rain persists across southeast Georgia, where some places have seen more than 10″ of rain in the last few days.
  • Scattered showers will remain likely overnight into early Tuesday morning as a cold front slowly presses south across our area.
  • FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY for Tuesday as the front stalls and low pressure develops along it. These features will produce widespread rain, some very heavy, throughout the day on Tuesday.
    • Many places could see 2-4″ of rain Tuesday, with some amounts closer to 6″ possible. Flooding will be possible.
    • Coastal hazards will begin to increase late Tuesday as onshore winds pick up.
      • High risk of rip currents.
      • High surf that could cause some beach erosion.
      • Higher tides due to the approaching new moon + strengthening onshore winds.
      • Gusty winds of 20-30 mph Tuesday afternoon will strengthen to 30-40+ mph Wednesday.
  • Onshore winds will be strong on Wednesday, resulting in some additional bands of heavy rain along the coastal counties.
  • Cloudy skies and occasional showers will remain Thursday and Friday, with a few storms in the mix.
  • The weekend will remain warm and humid with showers and storms each day, potentially as a tropical system moves by to our west.

Tropics:

  • Invest 92L has been designated in the southwest Gulf/Bay of Campeche.
  • This has a high chance of becoming our next tropical system.
  • The next name is ISAIAS (pronounced ees-ah-EE-ahs).
  • Model guidance carries the system northward/northeastward toward the Gulf coast, potentially as a strengthening storm late this week/over the weekend.
  • We will continue to monitor around the clock.
  • “Talking The Tropics with Mike” is updated every day.
