GBI: Ex-husband of grandmother makes gruesome discovery in alleged double homicide/suicide

Two women and a teenage boy are dead after a suspected homicide/suicide in Charlton County, Georgia.

GBI Investigators tell Action News Jax 15-year-old Caleb Logan Butts, 39-year-old Kimberly Gayle Butts, and 64-year-old Jan Elizabeth Kirkland, were found dead inside the home. They say all three had been shot.

Neighbors couldn’t believe the news.

“People are pretty low key out here,” said Lara Bliss.

GBI Investigators say Kirkland’s ex-husband made the discovery.

Charles Moore lives next door, and tells Action News Jax he typically only saw the family on his way to work in the morning.

“Their vehicle’s coming out, our vehicle’s coming out,” said Moore. “That’s about it really, you know?”

Investigators believe a medical examiner will be able to reveal the details of what occurred in this Home. They suspect a homicide-suicide.

We asked if there were any early indications who pulled the trigger, but they said those details could be available as soon as tomorrow.

That’s when the medical examiner at the GBI Crime Lab in Savannah, Georgia will be conducting autopsies.

With so much uncertainty, friends and neighbors of the family say they’re praying this family is able to heal.

“I hope the family is able to rebound and pick up their lives,” said Bliss.
