JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — The City of Jacksonville recently announced that fishing will return to the Jacksonville Beach Pier.

“Oh yeah, baby. It’s time to go,” says Steven Correa.

Many people like Correa are happy that starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday, they can fish off the Jacksonville Beach Pier again.

“We’ve been waiting to get this back open,” says Correa.

According to City of Jacksonville officials, fishing from the pier will be allowed daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

This comes after the pier reopened nearly 2 weeks ago following damage from Hurricane Matthew in 2016.

Brian J. Livingston says he’s pleased this rule was lifted.

“It’s incredible considering what this has gone through — the time, the effort to put this place back up and get the locals involved,” says Livingston.

Correa says when he heard fishing wasn’t permitted on the pier, it just didn’t sit right with him.

“That’s what broke my heart because that is, like, the money-maker around here — one of the things that people love to do,” says Correa.

According to the City of Jacksonville, there will be a limit to three fishing rods per person, and no cast netting will be allowed. But some pier rules will still remain the same.

No pets, no feeding birds, no skateboards, no rollerblades and no alcohol will be allowed.

None of the restrictions, Correa says, will stop him from coming to the pier.

“We out here trying to get them kings. Whatever is biting, we want them,” says Correa.
