Glynn County elementary school teacher charged with child molestation

GLYNN COUNTY, Fla. — A Glynn County elementary school teacher is accused of child molestation.

William Carlton Lewis, 26, was arrested Tuesday by the Glynn County Police Department for two counts of child molestation.

Lewis, who taught first grade at Altama Elementary in Brunswick, has already resigned his position. The victim's family says the abuse happened at an unrelated childcare program.

A relative of the victim said he can't believe what Lewis was thinking.

"What kind of human being? What does it take to do something like that," the relative said.

That man is now relieved that Lewis is behind bars. But said he is worried there could be more victims.

Lewis was also a youth pastor at a local church. Pictures on Lewis' Facebook page show him leading a children's service in 2013.

Action News reached out to the pastor at the church, but has not received a response.

The school district released a statement Tuesday.

"As disheartening and disturbing as this situation is, it is pertinent to note that at this point there is no evidence indicating that anything took place at school," the statement read. "Our hearts go out to the children and families involved."
