Grandmother, former school nurse brawl at Columbia County courthouse

LAKE CITY, Fla. — In May, a school nurse was arrested for stealing student medication and replacing the stolen pills with prenatal vitamins instead.

The victims and their families prepared impact statements in November, ready to read them to their child's former school nurse in what was supposed to be their last time coming to court in Lake City.

Boozer was supposed to accept a plea deal.

“Six months in patient rehab, 10 year’s probation and loss of her nursing license,” said Teresa Elwell, grandmother.

But Action News was told she wouldn’t take the deal because she refused to go to rehab.

The hearing was over, Boozer walked out with her husband, and the Elwells came out behind them.

“I asked her why don't you just take the rehab and get the help. Her husband told me to ‘Shut the F up’,” Elwell said.

In courthouse surveillance video, you can see Boozer’s husband put his hand up, and then you see Teresa confront them.

But what happens next is too difficult to see on the video.

“She pushed my face,” Elwell said.

Teresa says Boozer initiated the physical fight, and she was forced to defend herself.

Once police broke it up, Teresa is seen getting dragged across the floor by officers.

“I remember him saying ‘I'm gonna Tase you if you don't put our hands out’,” Elwell said.

Her arms are extended and she stands up in handcuffs.

“People say that I shouldn't have asked her that, but it's easy to say I shouldn't have when it's not your baby,” Elwell said.

“I understand my wife's position she was standing up for her grandson,” said Chris Elwell.

Just before the fight, Boozer is seen speaking with another woman.

According to the police report we obtained from the incident, that woman is a family friend named Melissa Olin, who was Columbia County’s Assistant State Attorney until July.

Now she’s a private attorney.

“The judge tried to appoint Melissa Olin for my attorney,” said Teresa Elwell.

She was able to get another attorney but fears it won’t matter.

“Since Melissa Olin is a witness against me how could I possibly get a fair trial here,” said Teresa Elwell.

Right now, Teresa Elwell said she is not getting any plea deals. She is charged with battery, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
