Grillers raise money for Daniel Kids

BBQ teams gather at EverBank Field to raise money for Daniel Kids.

The sixth annual Jacksonville Backyard BBQ Championships took place at Everbank Field Saturday afternoon.

The gates opened at noon and the event ended at 5 p.m.

"It's just a great day to enjoy some of the best barbecue you have ever tasted," said event chairman Cole Pepper, vice chairman of the board of trustees for the Daniel Foundation. "If you walk out of there still hungry, you only have yourself to blame!"

Attendees were able to vote for the People's Choice Award.

The Grand Champion of the Backyard division is crowned as the Amateur BBQ King of Jacksonville, the event's highest honor.

The money raised at the event goes to benefit the Glyn Cook Memorial Scholarship for Daniel Kids.

In the past five years, Daniel has awarded 33 scholarships worth over $55,000.
