Gulliford's last day is marked with historical celebration

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville City Council President Bill Gulliford has just one day left in his position.

His last official duty will be to help celebrate the 450th anniversary of the founding of Fort Caroline on Monday.

Gulliford will be dressed as the 16th century colony's leader, Rene de Laudonniere.

Other council members will dress in costume for the Jacksonville Historical Society program at City Hall.

Fort Caroline predated any pilgrims at Plymouth by more than half a century.

The celebration is free and open to the public, and will begin at 6 p.m.
