2 dead in experimental gyroplane crash in Clay County

CLAY COUNTY, Fla — Update 12:53 p.m.

Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol state that at approximately 10 a.m. Saturday, a Gyroplane, or small helicopter, crashed into a residential grassy field near County Road 214 and Melrose Road in Clay County.

The Gyroplane caught on fire directly on impact and the two occupants of the aircraft were pronounced deceased on the scene.

This crash is currently under investigation and no identities have been released at this time.

Update: 12:15 p.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol has announced that there were two occupants on the experimental aircraft and they have crashed on private property.

Authorities confirmed that both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

Clay County Sheriff’s Office has sent out an alert to the community in regards to a crashed helicopter.

Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Clay County Fire Rescue are on the scene at county road 214.
