ORANGE PARK, Fla. — The home where Somer Thompson was killed is to become a memorial garden.
It was announced Monday that the Somer Thompson Foundation partnered with Bring Food Forests To Northeast Florida will transform the lot where the Orange Park home used to stand into a memorial garden.
“A few public food forests have been created in the United States but many more are right around the corner. Diena Thompson, her foundation and The Town of Orange Park, Florida, should be commended for their support of such a forward thinking and far reaching project. There isn't any doubt in my mind that Somer's Garden will have a huge impact locally and beyond,” said Jolinda Kohl, co-founder of BFFTNEF.
Somer Thompson, 7, was killed more than five years ago. Jarred Harrell was convicted of killing her inside his mother’s home.

The home was burned down as part of a fire training exercise in February.
The ground breaking for the garden is scheduled for April 11.
BFFTNEF will handle the design, management and installation of this project.
