How to weigh in on proposed safety improvements on San Juan Avenue

Florida Department of Transportation

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation will hold a meeting on Tuesday, January 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. to preview the required median modifications for two safety improvement projects on San Juan Avenue.

FDOT released its following proposals:

  • San Juan Avenue (State Road 128) between Roosevelt Boulevard (U.S. 17) and Herschel Street (State Road 211): FDOT proposes converting the existing four lanes of traffic on San Juan Avenue (State Road 128) between Roosevelt Boulevard (U.S. 17) and Herschel Street (State Road 211) into three lanes with a center turn lane to reduce left turn and angle crashes at intersections along the corridor. The proposed project also includes installing a crosswalk with pedestrian refuge at San Juan Avenue and Fair Street.
  • San Juan Avenue (State Road 128) Mid-Block Pedestrian Crossing:FDOT proposes closing a portion of the median on San Juan Avenue (State Road 128) in order to complete work on a Mid-Block Pedestrian Crossing with a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) near the Noble House Assisted Living Facility. A 2017 FDOT traffic study concluded this is an area with high pedestrian traffic and a mid-block crossing was recommended to improve pedestrian safety.

The meeting is open to the public and staff will be available to answer questions and accept comments online at nflroads.com/VPH or by phone at (914) 614-3221 using access code 673-655-125.

Those who are unable to attend virtually or by phone may attend in person at the FDOT Urban Office Training Center located at 2198 Edison Avenue in Jacksonville.
