Jacksonville, Fla. — On Monday, 19 early voting locations opened and welcomed voters who wanted to submit their ballot ahead of election day for the first unitary election in Duval County.
Supervisor of Elections Mike Hogan told our news partners at WOKV the first two days are the busiest. We saw voters show up at the San Pablo Creek Library voting district as soon as doors opened
Many, didn’t want to wait until election day on March 21, specifically to avoid, “Crowds,” said voter Mark Brasseit. “(Line) wraps around the building.”

Voters pointed out ExpressVote machines are now making it an even quicker process.
“It was very efficient,” said another voter named Sal. “They have the express voting, so it’s a really good idea.”
”It went great and the system’s working very good here,” Brasseit added.

Hogan also mentioned he expects about 35% turnout, which would be an increase from the last two first elections in 2015 and 2019.
”It’s just something I do all the time,” Sal emphasized.
And although these voters are regulars, they want everyone who can to get out and vote.
There are still races that hang in the balance, like who will be the next mayor of Jacksonville.

A UNF poll released last week shows Democrat Donna Deegan leading with 37% of those polled favoring her and Republican Daniel Davis polling about 17 behind her.
But as they say, the only poll that counts, is the actual election turnout, leaving it up to the voters to decide.
”I really think it’s important to get there early and you know, do what you’re supposed to do,” Sal shared.
”It all starts in your state, your city, and it trickles up,” Brasseit elaborated. “But we want to get things the way Floridians want things.”
