BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Neighbors were left in shock after learning that two people were found dead in their apartment complex after police came to do a wellness check. “You don’t know what goes on behind that door,” said Dusty Howard, a resident.
The Glynn County Police Department is actively investigating after two adults were discovered deceased inside a local apartment complex Monday afternoon.
According to police, the two adults who were discovered deceased inside an apartment at the Camelia Apartments on Altama Avenue in Brunswick have been identified as Celeste Cyan Morgan, 25, of Brunswick, and Leon Anthony Myers, 25, also of Brunswick. Morgan was the primary resident of the apartment. No one else was found inside the apartment.
The deceased were previously married to each other, and the incident appears to have been domestic in nature. Glynn County Police believe there is no threat to residents of the Camelia Apartments or the surrounding area.
The manner and causes of death are still pending autopsy results, at which time more information will be made available.
Officers responded to the Camilla Apartments on Altama Avenue, Monday at approximately 4:01 p.m. to conduct a routine welfare check.
According to Glynn County Police, responding officers determined that “exigent circumstances existed” upon their arrival, forcing them to make an immediate entry into the residence.
“People can be out here and smiling and happy and just carrying on like everything’s great. But then it’s a whole nother situation behind the doors,” Howard has moved in a few months ago and says this is a quiet complex. He usually keeps the doors open since its a calm neighborhood but after hearing this he says he’s now locking his doors and making sure his family is safe inside.
The sudden deaths have sent shockwaves through the quiet residential community. Neighbors recalled seeing Morgan out walking her dog Tug; they described her as a friendly woman who would always stop and talk to neighbors with a bubbly personality.
“That’s kind of weird, especially after I saw her the other day,” said resident Jerry Gilbert. “She seemed normal then, walking her dogs and everything.”
Local AJ Bunton echoed the shock, describing the woman as a warm and visible part of the neighborhood.
“She always spoke to me... She always waved, and she was always quite friendly. It was very shocking,” Bunton said. While the woman was a familiar face, Gilbert said that the second individual found inside was far more reclusive. “I don’t think I ever seen him before. I don’t think he ever came out as much.”
Police state that additional details will be released as the investigation progresses.
Neighbors and community members say they are praying for the family to be okay and for them to get answers soon.
