It's alligator mating season, and they are on the move

Alligator mating season has experts calling on the public to stay away from the reptiles.

Action News Jax toured the St. Augustine Alligator Farm and saw males sending out mating calls for females’ attention.

Alligator curator Lauren Gruny says the amphibious reptiles become more territorial during mating season.

Gruny says if a gator does attack you, it'll usually let go if you put up a fight.

“A lot of time when you’re standing in the water, they see a small part of you," Gruny said. "So when they bite you, they realize, 'This isn’t what I want.'”

Gruny also says "A fed gator is a dead gator" because alligators who approach humans for food are euthanized.
