Jacksonville: Families hoping for answers after bones discovered

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Some families are hoping for answers following bones being discovered in northwest Jacksonville.

Investigators from the Jacksonville Sheriffs department have been searching the area since the bones were found.

Christy Davis is a local mother who said her son went missing more than a decade ago. Since then, she’s made it her mission to help other families with missing loved ones as well.

In June of 2007 Davis said it was one of the most devastating times of her life when she learned her son Austin Davis had disappeared.

“He was last seen at Jack’s jewelry and pond at 103rd St. and Blanding,” Davis said.

She’s said ever since that day she’s been searching for her son.

“We’ve been looking for him for 12 years and will never stop. I’ll never stop,” Davis said.

That’s why she came to the sight where police are searching for clues after bones were discovered hoping she or other families can get answers.

“The reason we came out to this location is because we have so many missing persons in Jacksonville. I thought that it was real important to just come and stand for those families,” Davis said.

Police said Thursday a landscaper discovered the bones while cleaning a wooded area. Investigators said they suspect foul play considering the position the remains were left in.

Davis said cases like this is why she too decided to be trained on how to look for missing people and it was her own tragedy that sparked the decision to help other people in the same situation.

“It really helps me, I find peace when I can be on a search to bring somebody else’s love one home,” Davis said.

Police said it could take days or even weeks for the medical examiner to identify those remains. However, for now investigators will continue searching for clues where those bones were found.
