Jacksonville family fears they may have to leave their pets behind in Guam

A local Jacksonville family fear they may have to leave their dogs in Guam.

The Raymond family adopted their pets, Annie May and Aubrey ray long before they were stationed in Guam.

"That is Olivia’s best friend, when I was pregnant with her, Aubrey would come and curl up on my lap and snuggle up as close as she could to my belly, Navy wife Carlen Raymond said.

Raymond told Action News Jax that they're being re-stationed to Virginia for her husband's medical treatment and a recent suspension to United Airlines pet shipping program indicates the dogs  might have to stay on the island.

"I know some people don’t put that value on a dog, but I do," Raymond said.

Action News Jax has been following recent pet incident at the airline -- including the death of a small dog, leading to the temporary suspension of the pet safe cargo transport program.

The decision leaves families like the Raymonds in a tough spot as United is the only airline that allowed direct pet shipping program from Guam the the United States.

"Leaving them behind would be like leaving my daughter behind," Raymond said.
