Jacksonville family pressing for answers following young father's murder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Wednesday marks one week since Daniel Rowe was shot twice in the head while taking out the trash at the Blind Rabbit in Riverside.

Britney Rowin said she still cannot believe her fiancé was gunned down.

“He was my teddy bear -- sweetest man you'll ever meet,” Rowin said.

While she knows there’s nothing she can do to bring her fiancé back, Rowin said she’s hoping there will be safety changes made in the area for others working off King Street.

Since Rowe's death, new street lights have been added to the area, but many people are still on edge.

Don Groense works a few doors down from the Blind Rabbit and agrees changes have to be made.

“King Street has a bustling night life and people often use the alleyways if they've had too much after drinking, they're not very lit,” Goense said.

Groense also said council member Jim Love came out to King Street to talk about the lighting issue and what could be done.

The Blind Rabbit installed more lights in the back of the business.

Groense said that’s a step in the right direction.

“It makes it harder for someone to sneak up on you,” Groense said.

The community is holding a benefit motorcycle ride to help the family with funeral costs. The event will take place Aug. 22 at the White Horse Saloon in Green Cove Springs.

Groense also said Love came out to King Street to talk about the lighting issue and what could be done.
