The Jacksonville Humane Society and partners help pets find loving homes during PetSmart Charities

JACKSONVILLE, Fal — Each year, more than five million pets enter animal shelters in need of loving homes. In partnership with PetSmart Charities, Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) and Animal Care and Protective Services (ACPS) will bring adoptable pets to two Jacksonville PetSmart locations in support of National Adoption Weekend, taking place March 11 - 12, 2023.

During the in-store event, JHS and ACPS invite pet lovers to make room in their homes for pets in need. PetSmart Charities also encourages people to consider adopting pets with special needs, like sweet Esmeralda.

Esmeralda was brought to JHS by a good Samaritan after they saw her get hit by a car. Esmeralda had a broken femur that resulted in a rear leg amputation and a few other injuries, but has stayed positive in the shelter.

She has been showing her gratitude to our staff and volunteers by giving lots of kisses, and always snuggles JHS veterinary technicians during her treatments. Esmeralda will need some extra TLC during her recovery, and we can’t wait to help her through this time and find her new family!

“National Adoption Week is an ideal opportunity to give a pet in need what they need most – people to love,” said Heidi Fulcher, Sr. Adoptions Grant Manager at PetSmart Charities.

“Pets with special needs, such as those recovering from injuries or living with limb differences, trauma recovery or physical limitations make wonderful additions to families. These resilient pets have a lot to teach us about the joy and value of caregiving.”
