JACKSONVILLE — A major expansion is taking shape at Jacksonville International Airport, and it’s about more than just adding gates.
Crews of 300 to 400 people are working every day to complete Concourse B at JAX. The project will add six gates, including five for American Airlines and one reserved for the Jacksonville Aviation Authority to provide the airport with additional flexibility.
Travelers will also have access to seven new restaurants, including Chick-fil-A, V Pizza and Cantina Louie. The concourse will feature two lounges overlooking the terminal area.
“The courtyard itself is going to be pretty amazing,” said Davey Jones of the Jacksonville Aviation Authority. “All the food and the beverages and all of those things that you and I want when we come in the airport, all of these things are going to available to you.”
In addition to the dining and lounge options, the new space will include lactation stations, a pet relief area and a children’s play area.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Jan. 27, and flights are expected to begin operating from the new concourse in late January.
