Jacksonville man wins $1 million on Mega Millions

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man is the latest lottery winner from our area after he got all five of the white ball numbers in the Mega Millions drawing.

The Florida Lottery announced Thursday that Stephen Shields, 60, won an automatic $1 million for matching the five numbers. Had Shields matched the Mega Ball, he would have won an estimated $22 million with a cash option of $12.9 million, according to the Mega Millions website.

Shields purchased his winning ticket from the San Jose Food Mart on San Jose Boulevard. The store will receive a $1,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.

The next drawing will be held Friday, May 13, at 11:00 p.m. with an estimated $99 million jackpot.

Lottery officials announced this week that during a live drawing Tuesday, the host called out the wrong number for the Mega Ball. He said it was a six, but it was actually a 9. No one won the jackpot for either the right number or the wrong number.

The official results for the May 10 drawing were 15, 19, 20, 61, and 70, plus the gold Mega Ball 9.
