JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters announced Monday that he will name Mark Romano as undersheriff this week. Romano has served at JSO for nearly 30 years.
Waters announced Sunday the retirement of Undersheriff Shawn Coarsey who has been with JSO for nearly 32 years. Coarsey was appointed undersheriff in March 2023.
Romano began his career with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as a patrol officer and worked his way through the promotional ranks, a JSO news release states. Former Sheriff Mike Williams appointed Romano to an executive role in 2020.
During the administration of Sheriff Waters, Romano has held multiple executive leadership positions within the agency, JSO said. He previously served as director of investigations and homeland security. Romano currently serves as director of patrol and enforcement.
