Professional women’s soccer coming to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — The United Soccer League (USL) franchise group JAXUSL announced it’s bringing a women’s professional soccer team to the First Coast. “It’s really kind of historic, in the fact that we’ve never had a pro sports women’s franchise in Northeast Florida,” said JAXUSL President and CEO Steve Livingstone.

The new team will be joining the USL which is expected to kick off in 2024, however, Livingstone says they’re targeting 2025 or 2026 to be the inaugural year. “All of that is going to be contingent though on us developing a soccer-specific stadium for us to play our matches in, and we’re currently discussing with the local authorities to find the right location and the right development for our teams,” said Livingstone.

Right now, no team name has been selected, but Livingstone said the group has been going to the community for assistance adding, “We decided that it was really important to consult with the community on if we want the community to get behind this team.” He hopes to announce the team name later this Summer.
