JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As night falls on Monday, temperatures are expected to dip down to some of the coldest of the year, which means most will be cranking up the heat.
"When we see these cold temperatures come, you will see an increase in usage," said Gerri Boyce, spokeswoman for JEA.
Increased usage could sometimes mean higher bills. JEA has several options for those who need it.
If you're having a tough time, you may qualify for a program called "Neighbor to Neighbor".
"We rely on donations from the community to help out our neighbors who are going through one-time hardships," Boyce continued.

That could mean anything from a death in the family to a loss of employment. There's also the option of payment date extension, making an arrangement where you pay little by little each month or something called "My Budget" – which is a 12-month rolling average. If you sign up for that, your bill stays within about $10-$15 of your normal amount, no surprises.
Boyce said whatever you do, speak up. Call before it's too late.
"If you find you can't pay your bill, don't wait until we've already sent you a disconnect notice," she said.
This time of year, JEA suggests to set the thermostat at about 68 degrees.
