JFRD dispatcher accused of pointing gun at officer resigns

A JFRD dispatcher resigned after police said he pointed a gun at an officer. Jeffery Perry was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer.

On Dec. 4, police said they received a complaint from a neighbor that Perry was driving recklessly. JSO said Perry was “very intoxicated” and acting aggressively.

The report said the officer asked Perry if he needed to be checked out by JFRD, to which he responded, “I work for JFRD.”

Police told Perry to go back inside and he began walking toward his garage and got into his truck with the engine off.

Investigators said they passed by Perry’s house a second time and saw him lying in his driveway. He eventually went back inside the home.

Police called for another unit to conduct a wellness check on Perry.

According to the report, Perry then walked out of his home with a rifle in his hands and wearing a bulletproof vest.

Police said Perry was walking towards officers with the rifle and ignored commands to put the firearm down.

The report said Perry pointed the rifle at an officer and said, “come at me, come at me!”

Perry told police that he had an episode of a flashback being in the military. The suspect said he remembered going out into the street but didn’t remember pointing the rifle at anyone.
