Vehicle hit by train in Riverside

A crash involving a train shut down northbound traffic on McDuff Avenue at Post Street, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

two vehicles appeared to be involved in the crash.

A driver of one of the vehicles tells Action News Jax,  a van rear-ended him, pushing him onto the railroad tracks. He managed to get out of the car before the train hit the car.
The Amtrak train conductor reportedly saw the car on the tracks and began to slow down.
Amtrak said the train was headed to Miami when it came into contact with the vehicle. There were no injuries reported to the 125 passengers or crew members on board, Amtrak said.
Amber Kaliontis works in the strip mall across from the railroad tracks where the crash happened. She says the intersection near McDuff and Post are dangerous, with angular roads, several traffic lights and the railroad crossing.
"Just like another one, there are constantly accidents, people get hit, accident car accidents," Kaliontis said.
Action News Jax reached out to FDOT to see what,  if anything, is in the works to improve traffic safety in the area, but we have not heard back.
Action News Jax has also requested the JSO crash report and 911 calls to see who is at fault for the car crash Monday morning that created the train vs. car incident.
