JSO: Jacksonville Sheriff candidate Lakesha Burton must show prior approval to wear uniform in ads

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is demanding documentation from sheriff candidate Lakesha Burton, proving she received written permission from former Sheriff Mike Williams to wear a JSO uniform in campaign ads.

The letter from Sheriff Pat Ivey asking for that documentation can be viewed below:

This comes after Burton received a cease and desist letter last week from Ivey, which can be read below:

Burton responded to the cease and desist order, which can be read below, saying she received permission from Williams to wear the uniform in ads in April 2021.

Ivey also released an August letter he wrote in response to Burton’s opponent, T.K. Waters, where he was granted permission by Ivey to wear his uniform.

Burton has formally asked for permission from Ivey but has not yet received it.

Burton and Waters will face off in a runoff special election for Jacksonville sheriff on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
