JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office cut the ribbon on its new headquarters on Riverside Avenue, where the agency says expanded facilities and technology will help officers respond faster to emergencies.
The move to the Florida Blue building ends the agency’s time at 501 East Bay Street, its home since 1977. Current and former sheriffs and lawmakers attended the ribbon-cutting.
“The morale for the agency is tremendous since we moved to this place,” Sheriff T.K. Waters said.
Strategic Communications Executive Vic Micolucci led Action News Jax through the facility. It includes a new public services building for police reports, recruitment, fingerprinting and polygraph services.
Other features include a strategic communications floor, a dedicated briefing room for the sheriff, an expanded 911 command center and a new Real Time Crime Center.
Officer Ligget demonstrated how the command center operates a fleet of drones to respond to emergency calls. The drones give JSO an aerial view of what officers are approaching, helping bridge the time between a report and their arrival.
“By getting eyes in the sky… that allows us to de-escalate and not use as much force,” Ligget said.
JSO says the tools inside its new headquarters are built with one goal: getting to you faster when you call.
