JSO: One killed in triple shooting at University Plaza Apartments

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a triple shooting at University Plaza Apartments, located at 719 Venus Mars Court, around 1 a.m. Sunday, police say.

Police discovered three victims shot at the scene. Two of the victims were able to transport themselves to the hospital, and JFRD transported one of the victims to UF Health Downtown. The victim that was transported by JFRD was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Homicide detectives are currently conducting interviews and canvassing in the area.

“We heard shots, it was like 4th of July fireworks,” a neighbor said. “But it was shots, a lot of shots.”

She was too afraid to be identified on camera, but said she heard more than a dozen shots go off during the shooting. She added that she has lived here six-plus years and it’s a family home so they just have to grow around what’s going on and keep safe.

“Just pray for their families, that’s all you can do. It’s crazy,” she said. “JSO is pretty good out here. If we ever have problems we call them. We had a problem the other day and called them and we thought we heard something, and they were right out here. That’s the one thing, we just depend on JSO definitely.”

Anyone with information regarding this shooting is asked to contact police at 904-630-0500 or JSOCrimeTips@JaxSheriff.com. You can also contact Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
