Kid Care Report: Lem Turner day care flagged for most serious violation by DCF inspector

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Every week Action News Jax investigates local child care centers to show you how they measure up to state guidelines. In this week's Kid Care Report, Letisha Bereola shows you day care centers, including one that was flagged for the most serious Department of Children and Families violation.

Action News Jax rarely finds day cares tagged with class 1 violations by DCF inspectors. According to state guidelines, a class 1 violation is the most serious in nature and could result in death or serious harm to a child.

The Brighter Futures Learning Center on Lem Turner Road had seven staff members working and 51 kids on site when the inspector showed up.

DCF tagged them with a class 1 violation and the inspector noted there were three unscreened staff members alone with children.

Bereola spoke face-to-face with the director. The director told her she did not want to comment on the report, but, said she is taking the violations very seriously and her center is back in compliance.

The center was also tagged for one class 2 violation for a field trip being understaffed.

DCF wanted one additional adult on the trip.

The day care also was flagged for six class 3 violations, which are the least serious.

Those violations were due to issues with record keeping and training requirements.

Bereola checked the center's re-inspection report and it was clean and back in compliance.

The second center in this week's kid care report: Busy Bees Childcare Learning Center LLC on  West Beaver Street.  It received a class 2 violation because a playground slide had cracks and a hole.

“I have your latest inspection. The playground area, has that been rectified? Did you guys fix that?" Bereola asked the center’s director.

The director told Bereola yes and they are constantly making improvements.
