Local motorcyclist dies after SUV makes illegal U-turn on I-295, FHP says

A 25-year-old Jacksonville man has died of his injuries following a motorcycle crash on I-295 just before the Buckman Bridge Thursday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash involved a small SUV and a motorcyclist.

The motorcycle collided with a 2018 GMC Terrain after the SUV attempted to make a U-turn in an "official use only" U-turn area., FHP stated.

The motorcyclist, Vincenzo Contessa, was taken to Orange Park Medical Center where he later died.

The driver of the SUV was 51-year-old Victor Palma. He had a 9-year-old passenger in the vehicle with him. They were both wearing their seatbelts.

The FHP report states charges are pending.
