Lawyer says Nocatee gun incident was a misunderstanding

A Nocatee woman was arrested after reportedly pointing a gun at several construction workers and threatening them near her home.

Judy Shivers, 67, was charged with aggravated assault. She’s since been released on bond.

Police say she walked out of her door on Wednesday with a .22-caliber rifle, pointed it at the workers and yelled at them to leave.

The workers were about to pour concrete at a construction site next door. When deputies responded, they found the workers hiding behind their concrete trucks.

Deputies found the rifle inside a bedroom closet in the home. It was not loaded when found.

When we went to her door, Shivers’ husband answered, and referred to their attorney.

Jason Odom with North Florida Lawyers says this was all a misunderstanding.

“There’s a lot of issues that are involved there, as far as their property in the construction,” said Odom. “It’s a complete misunderstanding, and we’re confident it’s going to be worked out with the state attorney’s office.”

What that misunderstanding was may be found in court records.

One of the construction workers allegedly told deputies, ”The neighbor was upset about the slab being on his property and that we can’t pour it. His wife then came out with a gun and told everyone to go, as she pointed it at everyone.”
